MEET YUMA

Yuma Hashemi, Executive Chef and Owner of Tehran-Berlin, was born in Iran but grew up in the eclectic district of Wilmersdorf in Berlin, Germany. He spent most of his childhood travelling and exploring; roaming the markets in Tehran, running around the olive groves in Italy and climbing hills in the Austrian countryside.

Yuma’s love of travel, his joy for meeting new people, discovering their stories and understanding their cultures and cuisines are all elements that play a role at Tehran-Berlin.

Seeking the urge to travel, Yuma has lived and worked in many places - from Germany, Sweden to France, it was at the idyllic Cap Ferret, where he fell in love with French cuisine. its formal techniques, appreciation for exquisite ingredients and rich history, all reflects within the tasting menus at Tehran-Berlin.

In 2017, with a business plan drawn on a receipt, Yuma opened the then named The Drunken Butler, now called Tehran-Berlin, on Rosebery Avenue, Clerkenwell. Over the next three years, the team worked together to create an imaginative menu influenced by their travels in Europe, Asia and beyond. Since then, Yuma and his core team continue their travels, from a pop-up in Tenerife in 2020, to Italian holidays visiting family and winemaker friends. His wine bar Emmanuelle is due to launch in spring 2023.

Yuma’s personality and sense of hospitality has gained him a reputation of ‘the perfect host’ within his guests and industry. He often is invited to cater for special private gatherings, as well as events for luxury brands and art gallery openings.
