Join us for Shab-e-Yalda for an evening of Persian poetry & Persian flavours at The Drunken Butler.
Yalda, which marks the ‘longest and darkest’ night of the year, is a time when friends and family gather together to eat, drink and read poetry until the early hours.
Pomegranates and watermelons are particularly significant as the red colour in these fruits symbolises the crimson hues of dawn.
We’ll be hosting a celebratory event with poetry readings from well-known Iranian-Canadian filmmaker & writer Tara Aghdashloo, and Persian snacks by guest chef Shirin Tahanan, followed by a five course tasting menu with wine pairing served on our chef’s table by Yuma Hashemi and his team.
* Tara Aghdashloo has been writing poetry since the age of nine. Although today she's mainly active as a filmmaker, she continues to write and publish her poetry in both English and Persian. In 2011 her poetry collection This is Not a Pomegranate (این یک انار نیست) was published by Shahrvand Publications in Toronto, Canada.
